Provence Part 1 - Mystical morning by Lac de St Croix
Provence. The word conjures up images of lavender fields stretching as far as the eye can see and has long been on my travel bucketlist. I finally made it here and will be sharing photos from my epic week in Provence in three parts, starting with my first sunrise in Provence. Although no lavender was involved, it was a misty and dramatic sunrise that was such a joy to photography and a perfect introduction to how much this region has to offer (apart from the famous purple fields)!
Lac de St Croix is a leisure lake and reservoir, 10 minutes by car from the village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie (our first base for exploring Provence). We arrived about 20 minutes before sunrise. We watched the sky glow and dance in shades of orange, pink and purple, all of which were reflected in the tranquil lake below. But things changed quickly and dramatically, as darker clouds (and some rain showers!) came in to meet the rising sun. My favourite part was seeing the mist roll in to cover the stone village and hills on the foreshore of the lake and lifting to meet the rain clouds. It was a sunrise unlike any one I have seen before so I hope you enjoy these photos :)
On the drive back to Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, we also saw the mist lifting from the lavender fields - so here is a glimpse of the lavender dreams to come…
